In Whose Hearts there is a Deviation, they Follow “Not entirely clear” Verses of Qur’aan

1705. Narrated ‘Aaisha (radhi Allaahu anha) : Allaah’s Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) recited the Verse :

“It is He Who has sent down to you [O Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam)] the Book (this Qur’aan). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundation of the Book, [and those are the Verses of  Al-Ahkaam (commandments etc.), Al-Faraa’id (obligatory duties) and Al-Hudood (legal laws for the punishmentof theives, adulterers etc.)], and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the Truth), they follow, that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trials etc.) and seeking for its hidden meanings; but none knows its hidden meanings save Allaah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say : ‘We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord.’ And none receive admonition except men of understanding.” (V.3:7)

‘Aaisha added : “Then Allaah’s Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, ‘if you see those who follow thereof that is not entirely clear, then they are those whom Allaah has named [(as having deviation (from the Truth)]. So beware of them.’ “

* Innovative Mutakallim

Adh-Dhahabee (rahimahullaah) said:

“If you see the innovative mutakallim saying: ‘leave out the Qur’aan and Sunnah and bring forth logic‘, then know that he is Aboo Jahl.

And if you see the ‘One on the Spiritual Path’, [who claims that by practicing a set of prescribed forms of innovated worship he will attain oneness with Allaah] (i.e. the Soofees) saying: ‘Leave us from [knowledge] that is transmitted (i.e. the Qur’aan and Sunnah) and bring forth the ‘Taste and Ecstasy of Passion’(1),‘ then know that he is Ibless (Shaytaan) become manifest in human form, or has become incarnate within him; so if you become cowardly then run away from him, otherwise wrestle him down, and sit on his chest with your knee, and read ayaatul-kursee, and strangle him.”

[as-Siyaar, (4/472)]

Footnotes:

(1) The taste and ecstasy of passion is that which they claim to achieve after the continual performance of innovated forms of dhikr.

460. Narrated Aboo Moosa Al-Asharee (radhi Allaahu anha):- Allaah’s

Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam) said,

The example of a believer who recited the Qur’aan, is that of a citron which smells good and tastes good; and the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur’aan, is that of a date which has no smell but tastes sweet; and the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur’aan, is that of Ar-Reyhan (an aromatic plant) which smells good but tastes bitter; and the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur’aan, is that of a colocynth plant which has no smell and is bitter in taste.

Superiority of a person who masters the Qur’aan

461. Narrated Aisha (radhi Allaahu anha):-

The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam) said,

Such a person as recites the Qur’aan and masters it by heart, will be with the (angels) honourable and obedient (in heaven). And such a person as exerts himself to learn the Qur’aan by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.
